High quality Nakatanenga crossbars for Land Rover Defender Who does not need an entire roof rack on his Land Rover Defender, because just want to mount a roof tent on two cross-beams, for which the Nakatanenga CargoBear crossbars are optimally suited! They are identical to the crossbars of the CargoBear roof rack and therefore combine all their advantages: made of a light and stable aluminum-magnesium alloy (AlMg3) high quality powder coated (RAL 9005 - deep black) width: 1.450 mm (of which 1.300 mm for the usable area) length: 120 mm completely made in Germany Furthermore, two or three brackets can be upgraded by buying the missing parts to a full CargoBear roof rack - this is just the advantage of the modular system carrier! Of course, numerous accessories for the CargoBear roof rack with the crossbars can be used. Please note: The CargoBear roof rack / crossbar can not be installed on defenders that have a ribbed roof (see photo). An approximate indication of the series is between 1983 and 1989. The areas around the doors are corrosion hotbeds in a Defender. Even though this is a well-known fact, the rust remains very often undetected and keeps eating into structural components and body panels. The doors feature many corners, angles and surfaces that constantly trap water and wet dirt. Screw fittings, rivets, welding points, the combination of different materials like steel, aluminum and rubber as well as mechanical stress often exacerbate the problem. If you are facing large scale restoration work in your 4/5 door Defender, you might consider whether a complete replacement of B and C pillars as well as the door sill isn’t the cheaper, quicker and most of all more thorough solution. We are offering entire sets for the right or left side of all models where door seals are only pushed in and not riveted. If you have riveted seals, they need to be adapted. Defender torsen differential lock

ATB Torsen differential lock - Defender 90/110/130 front axle and Defender 90 rear axle

Differentials are among the most important and heavily used mechanical parts and can make a huge difference in performance, especially once you leave the asphalt behind. This much is undisputed, but then the first question usually is whether you need proper lockers on the axles or at least limited slip diffs? Our answer: Unless you’re regularly punishing your Landy in heavy terrain and prefer it climbing over driving, a locker probably makes little sense for you. In ambitious everyday use, retro-fitting a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) like the Ashcroft ATB or the TrueTrac by Eaton will make a huge difference, though. For most drivers most of the time, limited slip diffs will be the best choice on-road, with varying surface and weather conditions, as well as off-road. But first some basics: in contrast to real lockers, which lock up your axle either electronically or pneumatically, LSDs work in the background all the time and not only if you switch them on. Moreover, there is no need for external input. They neutralize the torque differential on one axle gradually or in increments, whereas a real locker has only two states: either completely off or on. This in turn means that the LSD supports the driver continuously and unnoticeably on loose or slippery surfaces and can even beat lockers in certain tricky situations. Every seasoned off-roader will know this one: the vehicle is tilted sideways on slippery ground and the lower rear wheel with most of the load on a locked axle will pull the back of the vehicle violently sideways and downhill when you step on the gas pedal. Moreover, the enormous forces working on locked axles usually require re-enforcements to the drive train, if you want to avoid costly damages in such situations. The Ashcroft ATB LSD, available for Rover front axles (Defender 90/110/130) and rear (90) as well as for the P38 axle on 110/130, is of a Torsen Type 2 design, similar to the Eaton Truetrac, but with a slight difference. The engineers at Ashcroft are employing 6 instead of 3 pairs of helical gears parallel to the axle. The differential creates the necessary friction for torque compensation by pressing these helical gears to the sides of their pockets. Now, if you’re thinking metal on metal, there’s got to be loads of wear on these gears, you need not worry. Both the Ashcroft as well as the Eaton are designed to compensate for the wear and will be among the most long-lived movable parts in the car. One drawback inherent in this particular design is the fact that at least one wheel per axle has to have a load on it for the diff to engage. Pre-load springs on the Ashcroft minimize the effect. If you have both wheels spinning, simply engaging brakes and throttle simultaneously will initialize the torque compensation again. In cars with traction control, this effect is achieved electronically, by the way. The ATB LSD otherwise supports the traction control by multiplying its effects. Because of these characteristics inherent in the design a vehicle fitted with Ashcroft ATBs should never be brake-tested on rollers. The Ascroft ATB is reliable, quiet, supports traction control if fitted, needs little maintenance and improves both the driving characteristics and the power transmission, depending on your setup. It fits Rover and P38 axles (including fittings).  ATB Torsen differential lock Salisbury is only suitable for Salisbury rear axles. For Salisbury axles, the Detroit Truetrac from Eaton is also recommended as an alternative.

This full stainless steel spare wheel carrier for Defender SW/HT is the successor to our Defender spare wheel carrier RRHNAHI sold by the hundreds. It is available in two colours. The Defender rear door suffers from the heavy weight of the large spare wheel. Depending on use, after about five years or 50.000 kms the first cracks in the rear door frame appear. There are two solutions for this well-known problem: either move the spare wheel to the bonnet (see our bonnet spare wheel mount for that, not possible for post MY 2007 Defenders) or you fit our rear door spare wheel carrier. It takes off the complete weight from the rear door and opens along with the door. The carrier is fitted to the rear crossmember, a plate is mounted to the existing holes in the door, which is then attached to the carrier with two cranked stainless steel pivots. This carrier has been tested extensively, among others on the "Grand Erg" rallye and combines easy fitting with high toughness and exeptional usability. Available for all Defender models with rear door (Station and Hardtop). Improved design in 2014 and full stainless steel fabrication. The bearing is maintenance free, the complete carrier rustproof and can be completely revised it necessary. It's compatible with Land Rover rear step / bumper with towbar. Fitting is possible on a DIY basis. We also offer fitting service. If you also 'buy' the fitting charge we will contact you for an appointment. The spare wheel carrier opens together with the rear door, no further unlocking necessary. Heavy Duty Clutch Kit for Land Rover Defender TD4 Especially with switching operations under higher load, such. in trailer operation or in performance-enhanced vehicles, enormous forces must be transmitted by the clutch. A common problem with the Defender's original clutch is the failure of the insufficiently sized torsion springs. The torsion springs, which are specially adapted to the Defender Td4, eliminate the familiar problems with clattering or jamming couplings. Another, but less common problem is the ingress of oil from the engine or transmission into the clutch bell. This oil is absorbed by the porous friction linings and occurs during driving by the resulting frictional heat repeatedly to the friction lining. Due to the reduced traction it comes in the episode to a higher heat development and vitrification of the coverings. The heat is a measure of the converted energy that is no longer available to the drive!The organic coating used in this coupling can not absorb oil and therefore does not vitrify. It convinces with specially adapted friction modifiers with a soft response and enables a 100% adhesion. Of course, the pads are asbestos- and lead-free, free of other toxic heavy metals and heavy metal compounds. Complete set consisting of automatic clutch, friction disc and release bearing. Clutch kit with clutch slave cylinder for Defender TD4 from year of construction 2007-2016 We recommend replacing the pilot bearing when replacing the coupling.Please note:  Before installing the clutch, the following dimension must be measured on the flywheel If the dimension is 25.4 mm, the clutch can be installed. Roughly speaking, from 2,000 metres the loss of output per 500 m altitude is approx. 5%. Manufacturer tests up to 3,440 m were trouble-free. Up to 4,000 m no difficulties are to be expected. Up to 5,000 m the software calculates itself - but this could not yet be tested at real altitude. Important:Especially when used at high altitude, the free travel of the fan is extremely important!Route the combustion air intake and exhaust extremely short and with low resistance - i.e. no kinks, no blockage or reduction. It should also be noted that operation beyond 3,000 m is still a technical compromise. Again, care should be taken to ensure that the combustion chamber is properly heated on a regular basis. The chamber must be burnt free of soot deposits. Soot deposits can also form on heaters that are permanently operated at the lowest setting. Therefore, the following still applies: No guarantee for sooty combustion chambers!In order to ensure the longevity of the heater, you should also free-burn it occasionally at low levels. The combustion chamber reaches full temperature after running at full load for about half an hour. Normally, no further maintenance is required. In case of extreme loads, e.g. during longer overnight stays at more than 4,000 m, the combustion chamber including the seal set should be cleaned if necessary. If your Landy is not just a Chelsea tractor and regularly has to tow more than one kind of trailer, the odds are you will need an adjustable tow hitch. The first advantage over a static solution, of course, is the fact that you can adjust the height very easily just by moving slider and pin. Secondly, and more conveniently, you can also permanently mount several different tow systems to a number of slider plates. That means switching coupling types like tow ball, jaw or NATO is literally a matter of seconds. Pull the pin out, switch the slider plate, push the pin back in. Done. No screws, no nuts or bolts to fasten. The adjustable tow hitch is available for TD5/TD4 90, 110 and 110/130 high capacity pickup and comes as a complete assembly kit with the necessary chassis struts, the bracket for the rear cross member, mounts for electrics, slider frame, slider plate with tow ball, a choice of 7- or 13-pin electric coupling and all necessary fastening materials. Most importantly: the assembly kit is certified by an attached E-number (E11 for UK as country of origin) and that means the parts are road legal and you are not obliged to get additional certification or separate technical approval as may be required otherwise in your respective country. The number with the capital “E” stands for a general type approval within the ECE treaty. This includes the EU, the EEC, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries worldwide. The Defender has a soul, or so many say. And maybe they’re right, because sometimes it really feels that way. It takes you anywhere, even to places where others would have given up long ago. In return it needs care, tools and patience. It rattles, makes noises and has never pretended to care much about perfection. But anyone who knows it understands: that’s exactly its charm. There’s hardly anything more satisfying than working on this piece of British engineering yourself – or, if the spanner slips, at least impressing with a bit of technical knowledge.

From bumpers to snorkels – the right Defender accessories for the road ahead

If you want to turn a Defender into a travel vehicle, you need more than good spirit and a full tank. A winch bumper, for example – not because you’ve bogged yourself down, of course, but purely to pull everyone else out. We recommend our Nakatanenga winch bumper for the Defender, available as a bundle with winches from Horntools or Superwinch, with or without auxiliary lights.

But there are moments when no prayer helps, only proper recovery gear. With recovery points, rear crossmember reinforcements and traction boards, you stay in control even when the ground decides to create its own adventure. Everything is robust, tested and ready for real-world off road use.

If you’re planning long distances far from civilisation, it’s best to upgrade with a 56-litre auxiliary tank or a 66-litre version, while the Defender underbody protection ensures sharp rocks, roots or curious boulders don’t leave deeper marks. The Defender snorkel, or raised air intake, is essential for anyone heading into desert regions or water crossings – though even Hamburg puddles can look surprisingly deep. Available for Td4, Td5 and Tdi in different versions for Defenders with or without roll cages.

Defender suspension, wheels and tyres

No adventure without proper suspension. A Defender suspension kit isn’t about taste, it depends on how you use the vehicle. Whether it’s a 90, 110 or 130, there’s a setup for every purpose – from a family daily driver to a fully loaded long-distance touring vehicle. For the right off road look, you can add steel wheels such as our classic ANR wheels, Wolf wheels or equally robust Dotz Dakar wheels.

Interior with character – sports seats for the Defender

If you cover long distances, you should sit comfortably. With new seat foams you can preserve the original Defender seat charm, Defender sports seats add modern support on rough tracks, and matching seat covers protect the material or hide the scars of past expeditions. Classic style returns with the right Defender steering wheels.

And then there’s the sort of Defender accessories that make you wonder why Land Rover never fitted them from the factory: leather door handles, a proper glove box, a sturdy A-pillar grab handle so getting in doesn’t feel like a mini mountain climb every time.

Seat rail extensions – apparently British engineers didn’t know tall legs. A two-colour interior light, a handy rear cubbybox tray and of course the rear door strut that stops the door from hitting your back when the Defender is on uneven ground.

Dual battery system, electrics and lighting – power where you need it

Whether it’s a heater, laptop, fridge or phone, you need power on the road. That’s why one of the first upgrades many Defenders receive is a dual battery system. Ours comes with a stainless steel bracket for two Banner 80Ah batteries, including wiring loom and split relay. You can add a battery monitor if desired. Perfectly matched with the bonnet solar panel for Td5 and Td4.

In the lighting section you’ll find everything from 7-inch headlights and LED indicators to light bars from Osram and Vision-X, plus a matching lamp bracket. Reversing lights, interior lighting and a number plate light with camera are also part of the range.

Roof racks, storage and order in the chaos

The CargoBear roof rack for the Defender is almost too good-looking to load up. Alternatively, the mobile parking heater in an aluminium box also warms the roof tent – or the garden pavilion if needed.
