Frame galvanised This is where it all starts with a real 4x4 in general and the (classic) Defender in particular: We’re talking about the ladder-frame chassis, of course. Everything else is open to discussion with most serious off-roaders, that one ain’t. If your older Defender Td4, Td5, Tdi or your Discovery II Td5 is bound for a chassis replacement due to corrosion or structural damage, we can now supply an EU-manufactured, galvanized frame. The manufacturer is a supplier for military Defenders and that’s why critical parts of the chassis are strengthened. More robust than the original, they weigh only slightly more. Overall, the chassis are manufactured to the original measurements and are therefore easy to fit. The frame’s high-quality galvanizing offers superb protection from corrosion and can also be painted to enhance protective qualities even further. It also improves the look of the vehicle and makes technical inspections go more smoothly, judging from experience. All you need before the paint job is an application of Etch Primer to create an adhesive layer between zinc and paint. Etch Primer is a highly adhesive one-component epoxy that can be used on all the usual automotive surface materials. It simply sprays on and is the ideal primer for all subsequent quality finishes. Galvanized standard chassis frames for 90 and 110 can be supplied from the shelf for Defender and Discovery models mentioned above. The Tdi chassis construction supports a Td5 rear crossmember. This has the additional advantage that – in contrast to the Tdi – new towing components are still available, including the height adjustable Dixon Bate system. Chassis for 130 pick-ups or custom models, even 6x6, can be ordered and will be manufactured individually and to spec. Just contact us for assistance, questions or special requests. If you require stamping your original chassis number into the frame, we can supply this service in our own workshop. Simply ask for details.

Overhauled LT230 transfer case for Defender TD4 and TD5-Stage1 / Stage2
Replacement gearbox - transfer case, overhauled LT230 for TD4/TD5 Stage1/Stage2 Winchester Gears Stage LT230 are improved versions of the standard Defender and Discovery transfer cases. Common sources of failure have been carefully analysed and effective solutions implemented. Sleeved main housing The bore of the intermediate shaft, which is prone to wear and oil leaks, is machined and fitted with a steel sleeve. In addition, the frequently damaged bearing bore of the main shaft was taken care of by fitting a cylindrical sleeve. Intermediate shaft The intermediate shafts that hold the gear in place often wear out, leading to gear noise and, in later 1.21 gear sets, total gear failure. the high performance shafts fitted are made from 17.4ph material to ensure a long service life. High capacity oil pan Available as an optional extra, this oil pan increases oil capacity by 0.6 litres and helps keep the transfer case cool and well lubricated. Centre differential Stage 1 : Features a heavy-duty one-piece cross shaft that replaces the weaker two-piece design, a common weak point. Stage 2 : Incorporates an Ashcroft ATB Limited Slip Diff, a spiral design that optimises torque and drive distribution between the front and rear axles. This provides improved traction and eliminates the weakness of the standard unlocked centre differential, ideal for racing on low traction surfaces. For this item, we charge an additional deposit of 400.00 euros for your current transfer case. If you send us your old transfer case, we will refund you the amount of 400.00 euros. However, this is subject to the condition that the housing is in good condition and the gearbox can still be overhauled.

Overhauled manual gearbox R380 for Defender TD5 and MT82 for Defender TD4 The R380 manual gearbox, which was installed in 4 revisions from 1998 to 2006 in the 300Tdi and Td5, among others, owes its name to the 380Nm input force for which the gearbox was originally designed. After initial teething troubles in conjunction with the LT230T transfer case and corresponding improvements, the reliable R380 was only replaced when European environmental regulations made it necessary to switch to the Td4 engine with its six-speed gearbox. We offer top-quality reconditioned R380 / MT82 replacement gearboxes for Td5 and Td4. For this item, we charge an additional deposit of 400.00 euros for your current manual gearbox. The deposit will be refunded if you send the old gearbox to us and it is in good enough condition to be overhauled. If you send us your old gearbox, we will refund you the amount of 400.00 euros. However, this is subject to the condition that the housing is in good condition and the gearbox can still be overhauled. It also drastically reduces the risk of injury from protruding strand ends. No more rust: replacement bulkhead for Td5 and 300 Tdi The bulkhead is pretty much the most complex body part in a Landy – and one of the most vulnerable components, too. For one, it’s sporting many edges, corners, folds, curves and rivet connections and requires a considerable number of screw holes: to the frame, to the connections in the engine bay and to the windshield. Add to that a whole bunch of openings for steering, pedals, air and electrics and you see the problem. All this structural complexity combined with its positioning exposes the bulkhead to water splashing up from below or trickling down from above. Dirt and chemicals collect in the nooks and crannies and trap moisture almost permanently. On the inside of the cabin condensation or leaks can produce the same effect behind the dashboard, panels or floor mats, thereby creating constant moisture exposure from both sides. Strong, sturdy and massively versatile, it was way ahead of its time when we introduced it in 2016. But the world is turning, evolution doesn’t favor a standstill and if you want to survive in nature, you need to keep innovating. Leaner and meaner is this new bear, the CargoBear 2.0, when he emerges from his winter den in Berg. Same load bearing strength, same solidity, same rigidity, but greatly reduced fight weight: Your 4x4 has to carry around 30 % less weight on the roof. And on top of it, the new CargoBear comes with a reduced price tag as well. How did we do it? The crucial difference lies in a new construction design. Removing the comparatively heavy longitudinal connecting beams, their structural function has been taken over by newly developed perforated HIGRIP plates between the crossbars and angled end-plates for the sides. The new design achieves (nearly) the same structural strength as its predecessor but reduces the net weight considerably. The CargoBear 2.0 has been designed for a load capacity of 300 kg off-road (with evenly distributed load). This can easily be doubled on the road. Theoretically, that is, because it’s important to make two points when it comes to roof racks. One, keep in mind that your vehicle’s centre of gravity can shift upwards considerably when carrying a roof rack with cargo, especially off-road. And two, when loading your roof rack, the limitations will most likely result from your vehicles approved roof load which in most cases will be significantly below the specifications of the rack itself. Some of the CargoBear 2.0’s features stay the same, however, because we found them hard to improve: this includes the jet-black, super-flat look, the high-performance material and the modular versatility. Furthermore, all accessories, additional components, roof tents etc. are fully compatible with the first generation. And last but not least, the old heavier CargoBear with longitudinal beams and checker plate will be continued exclusively for classic Defenders who need specific heavy-duty applications. PLEASE NOTE: In Defender with pop-up roof / lift roof, the original roof is often shortened. If necessary, the roof rack then does not fit. The Defender has a soul, or so many say. And maybe they’re right, because sometimes it really feels that way. It takes you anywhere, even to places where others would have given up long ago. In return it needs care, tools and patience. It rattles, makes noises and has never pretended to care much about perfection. But anyone who knows it understands: that’s exactly its charm. There’s hardly anything more satisfying than working on this piece of British engineering yourself – or, if the spanner slips, at least impressing with a bit of technical knowledge.

From bumpers to snorkels – the right Defender accessories for the road ahead
If you want to turn a Defender into a travel vehicle, you need more than good spirit and a full tank. A winch bumper, for example – not because you’ve bogged yourself down, of course, but purely to pull everyone else out. We recommend our Nakatanenga winch bumper for the Defender, available as a bundle with winches from Horntools or Superwinch, with or without auxiliary lights.
But there are moments when no prayer helps, only proper recovery gear. With recovery points, rear crossmember reinforcements and traction boards, you stay in control even when the ground decides to create its own adventure. Everything is robust, tested and ready for real-world off road use.
If you’re planning long distances far from civilisation, it’s best to upgrade with a 56-litre auxiliary tank or a 66-litre version, while the Defender underbody protection ensures sharp rocks, roots or curious boulders don’t leave deeper marks. The Defender snorkel, or raised air intake, is essential for anyone heading into desert regions or water crossings – though even Hamburg puddles can look surprisingly deep. Available for Td4, Td5 and Tdi in different versions for Defenders with or without roll cages.
Defender suspension, wheels and tyres
No adventure without proper suspension. A Defender suspension kit isn’t about taste, it depends on how you use the vehicle. Whether it’s a 90, 110 or 130, there’s a setup for every purpose – from a family daily driver to a fully loaded long-distance touring vehicle. For the right off road look, you can add steel wheels such as our classic ANR wheels, Wolf wheels or equally robust Dotz Dakar wheels.

Interior with character – sports seats for the Defender
If you cover long distances, you should sit comfortably. With new seat foams you can preserve the original Defender seat charm, Defender sports seats add modern support on rough tracks, and matching seat covers protect the material or hide the scars of past expeditions. Classic style returns with the right Defender steering wheels.
And then there’s the sort of Defender accessories that make you wonder why Land Rover never fitted them from the factory: leather door handles, a proper glove box, a sturdy A-pillar grab handle so getting in doesn’t feel like a mini mountain climb every time.
Seat rail extensions – apparently British engineers didn’t know tall legs. A two-colour interior light, a handy rear cubbybox tray and of course the rear door strut that stops the door from hitting your back when the Defender is on uneven ground.
Dual battery system, electrics and lighting – power where you need it
Whether it’s a heater, laptop, fridge or phone, you need power on the road. That’s why one of the first upgrades many Defenders receive is a dual battery system. Ours comes with a stainless steel bracket for two Banner 80Ah batteries, including wiring loom and split relay. You can add a battery monitor if desired. Perfectly matched with the bonnet solar panel for Td5 and Td4.
In the lighting section you’ll find everything from 7-inch headlights and LED indicators to light bars from Osram and Vision-X, plus a matching lamp bracket. Reversing lights, interior lighting and a number plate light with camera are also part of the range.
Roof racks, storage and order in the chaos
The CargoBear roof rack for the Defender is almost too good-looking to load up.
