In contrast to PVC, Nylon PU (Polyurethane) contains no harmful, phthalate-based softeners. Until recently, lower-molecular-weight phthalates have been the primary choice for plasticizers in synthetic materials, even in food products and cosmetics. Phthalates accumulate in the environment, however, and are suspected to act like hormones due to their molecular similarity. Toxicologically, this is highly alarming, because it is assumed that these chemicals can cause many diseases, including cancer. For the coating of our Nakatanenga textile products, it is therefore no question for us to exclusively use non-toxic, ecologically sound alternatives that pose no health risks, like Nylon PU.

Swiss Pioneer Pick with Bag It’s not only watches and pocket knives that the Swiss do really, really well, they also know a thing or two about cruder tools. This pickaxe for example is used by the Swiss army engineer corps and it’s both extremely well-made and versatile. Our versatile, high-quality shovel for off-road and outdoor use in its original state was too long for comfortable transport in the vehicle and that's why we simply shortened the shaft. The shovel now matches the US Army standard length of 1.04m (3ft 5in).The spade shovel from top manufacturer Bellota has all the advantages of a Jeep shovel, i.e. a pointed blade with treads and a practical D-shaped grip. The requirements are fairly simple: the tools need to be versatile, durable and safe. They need to cut well and should weigh as little as possible. And since axes and hatchets are among mankind’s oldest tools, the most ergonomic and efficient designs are very often the oldest ones. This handy axe by Spanish manufacturer Bellota is made in the tradition of the Biscayne trade axes, a very old, traditional design from the Basque region that has made its biggest impact during the colonization of North America. The Biscayne style features a straight top of the axe head, a short blade and a slightly rounded edge.
