Unlike PVC, Nylon PU (Polyurethane) is free of harmful phthalate-based plasticizers. Low molecular weight phthalates were, until recently, the most common plasticizers for all types of plastics and are even used in food and cosmetics. However, they accumulate in the environment and, due to their molecular structure, are suspected of acting like the body's own hormones.
