We have our brake pistons manufactured to our specifications by a specialised European precision engineering company. We deliberately use high-quality, particularly hard stainless steel combined with a carefully engineered surface finish. Many inexpensive stainless steel brake pistons are made from comparatively soft material. Our pistons, by contrast, feature significantly greater material hardness. This makes them more resistant to mechanical damage and ensures a robust surface even after years of demanding use. Functionally Optimised Surface Instead of a Mirror Polish The surface of our stainless steel brake pistons is carefully machined and deliberately not polished to a mirror finish. There is a technical reason for this: When the brakes are applied, the piston moves outwards, slightly deforming the sealing ring inside the brake caliper. When brake pressure is released, the elastic recovery of the sealing ring helps retract the piston. The interaction between the piston surface and the seal is crucial. A suitable surface texture contributes to controlled friction characteristics and therefore to reliable piston retraction. This in-house developed mounting is made from stainless steel and thus also corrosion free. Our brake lines are 50 mm longer than the original hoses and thus suitable for larger axle travel, e.g. for lifted vehicles. They are sufficient for vehicle lifting kits upt to 90 mm. If you require different lengths, please contact us. These brake lines come with a TUV certificate of approval. In Germany such changes to the brake lines have to be TUV registered for your vehicle. We recommend to check brake fluid level and if necessary a replacement of the brake fluid. The hydraulic system has to be bled after fitting new brake lines. Any work on the braking system should always be carried out by a trained mechanic! While there is only one possible configuration for the Defender front axle, two different sizes of brake pistons have been fitted to rear axles. To avoid additional delivery costs we like to ask you to measure the pistons on the rear axle - they should be either 41.2 mm (small) or 46.0 mm (large). As these pistons are made from stainless steel they won't rust and thus also won't damage the seals. You need 8 pistons and two sets of seals for the front axle and 4 pistons (either small or large) and one set of seals for the rear axle. To further protect the brake callipers from the elements and corrosion, we offer these kits optionally with black brake caliper paint. Please choose the desired brake calliper service kit.
