And on top of it, the new CargoBear comes with a reduced price tag as well. How did we do it? The crucial difference lies in a new construction design. Removing the comparatively heavy longitudinal connecting beams, their structural function has been taken over by newly developed perforated HIGRIP plates between the crossbars and angled end-plates for the sides. The new design achieves (nearly) the same structural strength as its predecessor but reduces the net weight considerably.  The CargoBear 2.0 has been designed for a load capacity of 300 kg off-road (with evenly distributed load). This can easily be doubled on the road. Theoretically, that is, because it’s important to make two points when it comes to roof racks. One, keep in mind that your vehicle’s centre of gravity can shift upwards considerably when carrying a roof rack with cargo, especially off-road. And two, when loading your roof rack, the limitations will most likely result from your vehicles approved roof load which in most cases will be significantly below the specifications of the rack itself. Some of the CargoBear 2.0’s features stay the same, however, because we found them hard to improve: this includes the jet-black, super-flat look, the high-performance material and the modular versatility. Furthermore, all accessories, additional components, roof tents etc. are fully compatible with the first generation. The long G-Class will finally get a CargoBear with four crossbars and we are also working on a model for the new Defender. So, bear with us, we will release real results when we have them and not CGI renders like some of our competition. And last but not least, the old heavier CargoBear with longitudinal beams and checker plate will be continued exclusively for classic Defenders who need specific heavy-duty applications.  PLEASE NOTE: In Defender with pop-up roof / lift roof, the original roof is often shortened. For car campers and roof tent enthusiasts, roof loads are often a (ge)important issue. If you take it lightly, you risk roof damage. But away from the play on words and towards the bare figures, because the trend is clear: the average dynamic roof loads of vehicles are falling. While the G-Class with 200 kg and the new Defender with up to 168 kg are still solid values, things go downhill pretty quickly after that. Even a new Land Cruiser J150 Prado only manages 80 kilos, and in the normal passenger car segment the average is closer to 60 kilos, with a downward trend. In addition to changes in vehicle statics due to lightweight construction and electrification, the increased use of sensors and assistance systems is probably responsible for this. And even if the values for a stationary vehicle are of course considerably higher, the critical range for commercially available roof tents is approaching. At Nakatanenga, we are reacting to this development at an early stage and have therefore developed the Roof Lodge Lightweight, an ultra-light roof tent which, with a total weight of only approx. 46 kg, weighs a record low on the scales or the car roof. Of course, there are no restrictions on the space, comfort and weather protection you are used to from our Roof Lodges. How does it work? What is the difference between the LIGHTWEIGHT roof tent and our EVOLUTION 2 folding tents? >>> Detailed explanations and a description of the points listed below can be found on our info page, which opens in a new window. >>> First of all, we use 100% Oxford nylon with ripstop for the skin of the Lightweight, an extremely strong but surprisingly light material that weighs in at only 102 g/m2. Compared to the 320 g/m2 on our Evolution 2, this is a reduction of a whopping 78%. The fabric of the tent skin and the sun awning of the Lightweight are identical, PU-coated on the inside and impregnated on the outside. This means that no compromises are made in terms of wind and rain protection. How can weight be saved on the roof when travelling with the roof tent? Further weight can be saved on the Roof Lodge Lightweight by choosing the mattresses. As an alternative to our one-piece standard foam mattress (60 mm, approx. 5 kg) and the optional 3D mesh mattress (approx. 3.5 kg), we also offer a self-inflating Kampa mattress with a thickness of 10 cm and a weight of approx. 5.5 kg. The 10 cm thickness of the air mattress has been chosen so that, with a lower total weight, a comparable lying comfort and similar insulation properties to the combination of foam mattress with mesh underlay are given. Last but not least, the aluminium ladder can be removed and transported inside the car, which reduces both the roof load and the overall height of the vehicle. On car ferries, for example, 10 cm less height can often make a money-saving difference. Das Roof Lodge Evolution Vorzelt ... das aber auch an sehr vielen Dachzelten anderer Hersteller verwendet werden kann. Die weit verbreitete Bezeichnung <Vorzelt> ist an sich etwas irreführend, handelt es sich doch seit jeher eher um ein Einhängezelt, in dem man das Campingequipment, wie Tisch und Stühle, die Spielsachen der Kleinen und das Tragerl Bier schnell und ohne großen Aufwand verräumen kann. Das gilt nicht nur für das Aufräumen am Abend, sondern auch im Falle eines Platzregens. Hinzu kommt, dass alleine schon dadurch, dass diese Sachen nicht mehr sofort zu sehen sind, diese schon ein wenig sicherer vor einem Diebstahl sind. Gerne bezeichnen wir dieses Vorzelt auch einfach als <Duschvorhang>. Mit dieser Bezeichnung bekommt man auch gleich eine Vorstellung von der tatsächlichen Größe der Einhängezelte. Diese beträgt immer 120cm in der Tiefe und abhängig von der Zeltbreite 140cm oder 165cm. Somit sind sie zwar deutlich größer als die meisten Duschen, aber doch kleiner als das, was sich wahrscheinlich so mancher vorstellt. Bei einer ausreichenden Montagehöhe des Dachzeltes erhält man aber einen Raum, der auch bequem zum Umkleiden benutzt werden kann. Für den Aufenthalt bei schlechtem Wetter waren und sind diese Vorzelt eher weniger geeignet. Dadurch ergibt sich für sie ein Anforderungsprofil, das sich von dem der Bodenzelte der Extended-Zelte gänzlich unterscheidet. Da bei den Vorzelten der Zeltcharakter deutlich im Hintergrund steht, haben wir uns ein paar Gedanken gemacht und sie entsprechend ihrer Nutzung völlig neu gestaltet. Gefertigt werden sie nun aus dem gleichen Material, das wir auch schon für unser LIGHTWEIGHT verwenden - das T109 Ripstop-Nylon mit Oxford-Bindung. Dieses für sein erstaunlich geringes Gewicht von gerade einmal 102 g/m² überraschend feste Material drängt sich für die Verwendung bei einem Vorzelt förmlich auf. Da die Vorzelte ebenso wie die Bodenzelte meist im Fahrzeug transportiert werden müssen, spielt das Packmaß keine unwesentliche Rolle. Dadurch, dass auch die sonst übliche voluminöse und schwere PVC-Bodenwanne durch eine dünne und leichte Auslegplane ersetzt wurde, ist das Packmaß des Vorzelts fast schon als winzig zu bezeichnen. Aufgrund der Art der Nutzung sind aufwändige Fensterkonstruktionen so sinnlos wie Spikes für Ballerinas - keiner verwendet sie. Eine Existenzberechtigung haben Fenster bei Hängezelten natürlich schon; schließlich kann man durch sie nicht nur nach draußen sehen, sie lassen auch Licht ins Zelt. Doch hier kommt nun das T109 Ripstop-Nylon wieder ins Spiel: Dieses Material hat eine gute Lichtdurchlässigkeit, wodurch sich die Frage nach Fenstern endgültig erledigt. Üblicherweise befindet sich der Eingang hinter der Leiter, die somit einem raschen Verräumen des Equipments buchstäblich im Wege steht. Deshalb haben wir auf einen Eingang verzichtet. Mancher wird nun sagen, dass die bei Nakatanenga jetzt wohl endgültig über das Ziel hinausgeschossen sind. Doch haben wir einfach auch den Aufbau der üblichen Eingänge mit dem Eingangsstoff, Moskitonetz und Reißverschlüssen hinterfragt und diese für nicht notwendig befunden. Bei unserem Vorzelt gibt es deshalb zwar keinen EINgang, aber natürlich gibt es einen ZUgang - sogar gleich mehrere. Das Vorzelt ist an allen 4 Ecken mit Reißverschlüssen ausgestattet. Mittels dieser lassen sich die Seitenwände voneinander trennen und somit nicht nur der Zugang beliebig festlegen. Man kann auch eine oder auch alle Seitenwände aufrollen. Am Abend brauchen dann beispielsweise Tisch und Stühle nur auf die Plane gestellt, die Seitenwände abgerollt und die Reißverschlüsse geschlossen zu werden. Und einen richtigen Mehrwert bietet das Vorzelt auch noch: Die seitlichen Zeltwände haben zusätzlich zwei Ösen an der Unterseite. An diesen kann man die Seitenwände entweder schräg abspannen oder aber mittels optional erhältlicher Teleskopstangen ausstellen. CargoBear 2.0 system roof rack for Land Rover New Defender from 2020 onwards CargoBear, meet the New Defender! New Defender, meet the CargoBear! Two legends are coming together for the first time: the new Land Rover Defender, arguably the most complete 4x4 off-road vehicle at present, and our tried and tested, very successful modular roof rack system CargoBear. The bear crowns every new Landy, whether it’s a 90 or a 110. At Nakatanenga, we took our time to finetune the CargoBear for every design detail, technical specification and user requirement the Defender L663 (from MY 2020) challenged us with. At its full length of 2.41 m, our rack consists of 3 crossbars, two platform elements as well as front and rear modules. The overall width of 1.20 m gives you almost 3 square meters of fully usable cargo space. The entire surface can be loaded and walked upon – a decisive advantage over many competing products. The CargoBear is screwed into the original mounting points of the roof rails which have to be removed, of course. Another great advantage over the competition is the fact that you can configure the CargoBear rack in two heights: At 100 mm, the glass roof – if you have one –remains fully functional. If your Defender doesn’t have a glass roof or if you prefer a lower, more streamlined profile, the rack can be mounted at only 80mm above the roof. Whether you’re choosing the high or low mount, aerodynamics was always our main concern in the CargoBear’s development. There are no legally required speed limits when driving with the rack, but we recommend a top speed of 160 km/h when empty and 130 km/h when loaded. For the overall load capacity please refer to your owner’s manual and the specific version or configuration of your vehicle. The roof rack’s weight of up to 50 kg has to be deducted from the dynamic load capacity. The new Defender’s overall look is perfectly complimented by the matte black powder coating of both aluminum and stainless steel elements. While the V-shaped rear module accommodates the antenna and the rear view camera and guarantees full functionality, the front element is specifically designed to easily integrate an Osram VX1000-CB or other light bars. Pack a bear on your roof, the CargoBear! Or, in this case, our new bear cub. The modular roof rack system that has revolutionized the attic conversions on top of Defenders and G-Wagons is now also available for the Jimny II GJ / HJ. The small workhorse from Suzuki is a big performer but has one major disadvantage: the Jimny –  due to conceptual constraints – suffers from massive lack of space on the inside. Farmers, foresters and other friends of the 4x4 quickly reach the limits of the Mini-Defender when storing tools and equipment. With the CargoBear for the petite Japanese, there is now a modular and highly flexible roof rack to individually adapt to your needs. The CargoBear’s flat roof silhouette reduces aerodynamic losses and the modular design protects the car’s roof and body by effectively absorbing torsion forces. The deep black, high-quality powder-coated CargoBear modules made of aluminum-magnesium alloy are manufactured entirely in Germany. The bear’s skeleton is made up of either two or three crossbeams. The beams also work by themselves as roof racks. Two panels fit each segment between a pair of crossbars, creating either a short or a full platform over the entire length of the roof. An accompanying wind deflector at the front further improves the aerodynamics of the roof rack, which is already very flat, and offers the possibility of mounting the Osram SX180 or SX300 light bars via special holes. For the rear, an end carrier is included for mounting additional headlights, handles or other accessories. The modular structure over the entire area allows for a flexible yet precise arrangement of lashing points, thereby making your roof load much more secure. Fittings are inserted in the lashing grid on the side or on top of the rack. Single stud fittings are recommended for lighter loads. If it gets heavier, choose ring fittings with double studs. As the name implies, two studs instead of one are inserted into the lashing grid, effectively halving the forces exerted on each point in the grid. The CargoBear’s panels feature a perforated non-slip design, contributing further to your load safety. The modules are supplied with all the necessary fastening material. Roof Lodge Car Floor / Awning for Roof Lodge 140 Extended Roof Tent If you already own a Roof Lodge Extended 140 without awning (not Evolution and EVO II models), this ground tent is the ideal extension. Of course in the same colour and in the same, proven fabric quality as the roof tent itself. This floor tent is suitable for vehicles with a tent mounting height of 150 cm. For higher vehicles, it can be easily adapted with our tent extension strip.The awning, which is simply zipped in, has a footprint of about 2.40 x 2.20 metres. This corresponds to over 5 square metres. It has an entrance, a passage to the vehicle and 2 windows. This quick release frame by Nakatanenga is made up of two stainless steel frames, which interlock. The top part is permanently mounted to the tent, while the bottom is fixed to the vehicle/ your roof rack. For a sleeker look the visible bottom part of the combo is powder coated in black and made to fit any roof rack. You have multiple vehicles and would like to use your tent with all of them? No Problem! You can simply purchase the bottom part by itself. Once the frames are mounted on your car and the tent putting them together is incredibly easy. Simply slide the frames into each other and screw in the 4 (or 8) screws and off you go! The tent can be even rotated by 90°, to perfectly accommodate your vehicle. And to make it even easier than it already is we'll add the 30 cm screw-bit for free. Roof tent accessories - roof tent hood A roof tent hood as a spare part in the color black - suitable for all Roof Lodge Evolution 1 and 2 (140 and 165 - Basic and Extended) and Roof Lodge Lightweight.
