Whether you want to reach the CargoBear roof rack or only the standard rails, access to the New Defender’s rooftop (from MY 2020) is neither practical nor safe without a built-in ladder. Our deployable side ladder, made from anodized aluminum and rubberized steps, is the perfect solution for rooftop access. It can be mounted either on the left or the right side above the rear wheel arch (only on the left with a side-mounted gear carrier). You can attach the ladder either to the CargoBear platform, using the included adapters, or to the original Land Rover roof rail. The ladder will always provide quick and most importantly safe access to the roof.

The ladder with its maximum load of 150 kg deploys in two stages. First you pull it out of the frame and then it folds down over the rear wheel. In stark contrast to regular rear-mounted ladders with their 90 vertical mounting angle, the side ladder has a more convenient gradient towards the car – making climbing and standing on the ladder much more comfortable and also safer. While loading or securing your cargo on the roof, you can lean forward and tilt your body’s center of gravity towards the car, making it much easier to prevent falls.

When fully contracted, the ladder can be locked. The aerodynamic construction of the sides and the altogether very compact size significantly reduce both wind resistance and wind noise. The design with its components in black, anthracite-gray and aluminum-silver are perfectly complementing the New Defender’s look.
